3 Meaninful things (Blog #11)

When I think about this class, the 3 most meaningful things that we did was...

 1. Read Aria by Richard Rodriguez. Out of all the stories we read this one was the one that most stuck with me even after reading it. Coming from a bilingual family it hit close to home so It definitely resonated with me the way the author felt such emotion with having to learn to English, while also describing how the more he learned English the more he felt separating slowly from his family.

2. Read Troublemakers. This story was the one that I learned the most out of. I always thought that kids who were labeled trouble makers were just kids who liked to fool around and cause chaos for no reason. But after reading troublemakers It made me realize that there is a reason, a huge one that us as educators should notice. These kids who are labeled as "bad" are not bad students, they are just not being listened to and if we take the time to listen to them we can find out so much.

3. Watch the ethnic studies video. This video was the most interesting one out of all the videos we watched. The way that something like a ethnic studies class was so inspirational and important to students and the way they fought to be able to keep their class shows just how important that that class meant to them. I was able to participate in an ethnic studies for my senior year in high school and it was the most interesting and eyeopening class I've ever took.

  1. Hi Abigail! I totally agree with everything you said. I also really enjoyed the ethnic studies video, I wish my high school had offered that class it seems really interesting.
